Park the working car close to the dead car
Turn off both cars
Open both hoods
Locate both batteries
Attach red clamp to dead battery positive terminal
Attach other red clamp to working battery positive terminal
Attach black clamp to working battery negative terminal
Attach other black clamp to unpainted metal on the dead car
Start the working car
Wait a few minutes
Start the dead car
Let both cars run
Remove black clamp from the dead car
Remove black clamp from the working car
Remove red clamp from the working car
Remove red clamp from the dead car
Drive the jump-started car for at least 15–30 minutes
