Scoop ice cream into balls and freeze until very firm
Crush cornflakes, cereal, or bread crumbs into fine crumbs
Mix crumbs with cinnamon and sugar
Roll each ice cream ball in the crumb mixture
Freeze again until solid
Dip each coated ball in beaten egg or batter if using
Roll again in crumbs for a thicker coating
Freeze once more until very hard
Heat oil in a deep pan until hot
Fry each ice cream ball for a few seconds until golden
Remove quickly and drain on paper towels
Serve immediately with toppings if desired
