Peel and devein the shrimp if needed
Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels
Mince the garlic
Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat
Add the garlic and cook briefly until fragrant
Add the shrimp in a single layer
Season with salt and black pepper
Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink and opaque
Add lemon juice and chopped parsley if desired
Toss to coat
Remove from heat and serve immediately
