Heat a skillet over medium heat
Add a small amount of oil if needed
Place the Italian sausage in the skillet
Cook for 12 to 15 minutes, turning often
Brown all sides evenly
Reduce heat if the outside browns too quickly
Cover the skillet for a few minutes if needed to help cook through
Check that the internal temperature reaches 160°F for pork sausage or 165°F for poultry sausage
Remove from heat
Let rest for a few minutes before serving
