Rinse 1 cup of lentils under cold water
Pick out any debris or damaged lentils
Add lentils to a pot with 3 cups of water or broth
Bring to a boil over high heat
Reduce heat to low and cover partially
Simmer until tender
Check often and add more liquid if needed
Cook until the texture is the way you like it
Drain any excess liquid if necessary
Season with salt after cooking
Serve or use in your recipe
