Preheat the grill to medium-high heat
Scrub the oyster shells clean under cold water
Discard any oysters with cracked shells or shells that stay open when tapped
Place oysters cup-side down on the grill grate
Close the grill lid
Grill until the shells begin to open, about 5 to 10 minutes
Remove opened oysters from the grill with tongs
Use a towel or oyster knife to pry the shells open carefully
Detach the oyster from the shell if desired
Add butter, garlic, lemon juice, hot sauce, or herbs
Serve immediately
Discard any oysters that do not open after grilling
