Use a microwave-safe bowl or a plain paper bag
Add 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
Add 1 teaspoon oil if using a bowl
Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe plate or vented lid
Or fold the top of the paper bag closed if using a bag
Microwave on high for 2 to 4 minutes
Listen for the popping to slow to 2 to 3 seconds between pops
Stop the microwave when popping slows
Carefully remove the container using oven mitts
Add salt or seasoning if desired
Serve immediately
