Pat the steak dry with paper towels
Season both sides with salt and pepper
Heat a skillet over high heat until very hot
Add a small amount of oil to the pan
Place the steak in the pan
Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side
Flip once only
Add butter, garlic, or herbs if desired
Remove the steak when browned and cooked to your liking
Rest the steak for 3 to 5 minutes before slicing
Slice against the grain
