Use over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed on the label
Apply a warm compress to the affected ear for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Rest and keep your head elevated
Drink plenty of fluids
Avoid getting water in the ear
Do not insert cotton swabs, fingers, or other objects into the ear
Use ear drops only if prescribed or recommended by a healthcare professional
Use a humidifier if the air is dry
Chew gum or swallow if pressure is causing discomfort
Seek medical care if pain is severe, symptoms worsen, or there is fever, drainage, hearing loss, or dizziness
