Use a warm compress on the affected ear
Take over-the-counter pain relievers as directed on the label
Keep the ear dry
Avoid inserting anything into the ear
Chew gum or swallow to help relieve pressure
Rest with your head elevated
Use saline nasal spray if congestion is present
Avoid loud noises
Try gentle jaw movements if pain is from pressure changes
Seek medical care if pain is severe, lasts more than a day or two, or comes with fever, drainage, hearing loss, or swelling
