Rest the hip and avoid activities that worsen pain
Apply ice packs for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, several times a day
Use over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain relievers if safe for you
Sleep on the opposite side or use a pillow between the knees
Avoid prolonged standing, stair climbing, and repetitive hip movements
Do gentle stretching and strengthening exercises as tolerated
Maintain good posture and use supportive footwear
Lose excess weight if needed to reduce hip stress

Consider corticosteroid injection if recommended by a doctor
Treat any underlying causes such as leg-length differences or gait problems
