Apply the antifungal exactly as directed on the package, usually once or twice daily
Continue treatment for the full recommended period, even if the rash looks better
Keep the affected area clean and dry
Wash hands after touching the rash
Avoid scratching the area
Do not share towels, clothing, combs, or bedding
Wash clothing, towels, and bedding regularly in hot water
Wear loose, breathable clothing
Change out of sweaty clothes promptly
Keep pets checked and treated if they may be the source
See a doctor if the rash is on the scalp, beard, nails, face, or groin
See a doctor if the infection is widespread, severe, or keeps coming back
See a doctor if there is no improvement after 2 weeks of treatment
Use prescription oral antifungal medicine if advised by a doctor
