Wash and press your fabric flat
Fold the fabric on the true bias at a 45-degree angle
Align the fold so the fabric edges form a straight cutting line
Use a ruler or measuring tape to mark the desired tape width
Mark parallel lines across the fabric at the chosen width
Cut along the marked lines with sharp fabric scissors
Keep the scissors steady and let the fabric move, not the blades
Cut long continuous strips if possible
Join short strips by placing them right sides together at a 90-degree angle
Sew the joined strips, then trim and press the seams open
Fold the strip in half lengthwise and press if making single-fold bias tape
Fold both long edges toward the center and press if making double-fold bias tape
