Check local permits, HOA rules, and protected-tree regulations before cutting
Wear protective gear: helmet, eye protection, gloves, long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy boots
Inspect the palm for power lines, nests, rot, cracks, and falling hazards
Clear the work area and keep people, pets, and vehicles far away
Use the right tools: pruning saw, pole saw, chainsaw, rope, ladder, and safety harness as needed
Cut off dead or loose fronds first from the outside in
Remove seed pods or fruit if present
If cutting the trunk, make a controlled notch on the side you want it to fall
Make the main cut from the opposite side, above the notch
Use ropes or a winch to guide the fall if needed
Keep a clear escape path and move away as the tree starts to fall
Cut the trunk into manageable sections after it is on the ground
Remove the stump or grind it down if required
Dispose of fronds and trunk sections according to local rules
Hire a licensed arborist for tall palms, unstable trees, or any tree near structures or power lines
