Select the file, text, or item you want to move
Press Command + C to copy
Press Command + Option + V to move the copied item to a new location in Finder
For text, use Command + X if the app supports cut
If Command + X is not available, copy with Command + C, then paste and delete the original
Use Command + V to paste
In Finder, drag and drop items to move them without copying
Hold Command while dragging to copy instead of move
