How to Cut Up an Onion?

Peel off the outer papery skin

Cut off the top end

Leave the root end attached

Slice the onion in half from top to root

Peel away the remaining skin from each half

Place one half flat-side down on the cutting board

Make vertical cuts toward the root, without cutting through the root

Make horizontal cuts if you want smaller pieces

Slice crosswise to dice the onion

Repeat with the other half
