Open the PDF or image in Preview
Click the highlighted text or area
Press Delete or Backspace
If the highlight is in the Markup toolbar, click the highlight tool again and remove it
If needed, choose Edit > Undo to remove the last highlight action
Save the file
If the highlight is in a saved copy, use File > Revert To > Browse All Versions to restore an earlier version
