Get your lipid panel results
Note your total cholesterol
Note your HDL cholesterol
Divide total cholesterol by HDL cholesterol
Use the formula: Cholesterol ratio = Total cholesterol ÷ HDL cholesterol
For LDL-to-HDL ratio, divide LDL cholesterol by HDL cholesterol
For triglyceride-to-HDL ratio, divide triglycerides by HDL cholesterol
