Turn off power to the circuit
Disconnect the component or wire if needed
Set the multimeter to continuity mode
Insert the test leads into the correct ports
Touch the probes together to confirm the meter works
Place one probe on each end of the wire or component
Listen for the beep or check for a near-zero reading
If there is no beep or the display shows open or high resistance, continuity is not present
Remove the probes when finished
