Turn off power to the circuit or device
Disconnect the component or isolate the wire if needed
Set the multimeter to continuity mode
Insert the test leads into the correct multimeter ports
Touch the probe tips together to confirm the meter works
Place one probe on each end of the circuit, wire, fuse, or component
Check for a beep or a very low resistance reading
If there is no beep or the reading is very high, continuity is not present
Repeat the test on other sections as needed
Restore power only after testing is complete
