How to Do Cross Stitch?

Gather cross-stitch fabric, embroidery floss, a needle, scissors, and a hoop or frame

Cut a length of floss and separate the needed strands

Thread the needle and knot the end if desired

Place the fabric in the hoop or frame to keep it taut

Find the center of the pattern and the center of the fabric

Bring the needle up through one hole of the fabric

Make a diagonal stitch to the opposite hole

Bring the needle up through the next hole to form the second diagonal

Complete each X by crossing the stitches in the same direction throughout the project

Follow the pattern color by color and stitch by stitch

Keep stitches even and consistent in tension

Secure the thread on the back when starting and finishing

Trim excess thread with scissors

Continue until the design is complete

Remove the fabric from the hoop or frame when finished

Wash or press the finished piece if needed

Display or frame the completed cross stitch
