How to Do Cross Stitch?

Gather cross-stitch fabric, embroidery floss, a needle, scissors, and a hoop or frame

Cut a length of floss and separate the strands if needed

Thread the needle and knot the end if using a method that requires a knot

Place the fabric in the hoop or frame and tighten it

Find the center of the fabric and the center of the pattern

Start stitching from the back or front according to your preferred method

Make the first diagonal stitch in one direction

Make the second diagonal stitch crossing the first to form an X

Keep all top stitches facing the same direction

Follow the pattern one square at a time

Count carefully to place each stitch in the correct spot

Change colors as needed by ending one thread and starting another

Secure the thread on the back when finished with a section

Trim excess thread with scissors

Continue stitching until the design is complete

Wash and press the finished piece if needed

Frame, display, or use the finished cross-stitch project
