Tilt your head so the affected ear faces downward
Gently pull the earlobe down and back
Chew gum or swallow repeatedly
Yawn several times
Try the Valsalva maneuver gently: close your mouth, pinch your nose, and blow softly
Use a warm compress over the ear for 10 to 15 minutes
Sleep with your head elevated
Stay hydrated
Use steam from a warm shower
Avoid inserting cotton swabs, fingers, or other objects into the ear
Avoid forceful nose blowing
Use over-the-counter pain relievers only as directed on the label
Seek medical care if you have fever, severe pain, drainage, hearing loss, dizziness, or symptoms lasting more than a few days
