Turn off the water supply valve behind the toilet
Flush the toilet to empty the tank and bowl as much as possible
Hold down the flush handle to remove more water from the bowl
Use a plunger to push remaining water through the trap if needed
Remove leftover water from the bowl with a sponge, cup, or wet/dry vacuum
Pour a small amount of water into the bowl and repeat if necessary
Use towels to soak up any remaining moisture around the rim and base
