Look for a common factor and factor it out first
Use grouping if the cubic has four terms
Check for special forms such as sum or difference of cubes
Try possible rational roots using factors of the constant term
If a root is found, divide the cubic by the corresponding linear factor
Factor the remaining quadratic if possible
Write the result as a product of linear and/or quadratic factors
Verify by expanding the factors back to the original cubic
