Verify the outlet is dead with a voltage tester
Remove the outlet cover plate
Unscrew the outlet from the electrical box
Inspect the box, outlet, and wires for damage
Tighten loose mounting screws on the outlet
Tighten loose box screws or replace damaged box hardware
Add outlet shims if the outlet sits too far back
Replace worn or damaged outlet receptacle if needed
Reconnect any loose wire connections
Reinstall the outlet and cover plate
Restore power and test the outlet
Call a licensed electrician if wiring or box damage is present
