Disconnect the garage door opener
Close the garage door fully
Secure the door with locking pliers on the track
Release spring tension only if you are trained and have the proper tools
Inspect the cable for fraying, slack, or detachment
Replace damaged cables with the correct matching cable type
Remove the old cable from the bottom bracket and drum
Install the new cable on the bottom bracket
Route the cable up the side of the door and around the drum
Make sure the cable sits properly in the drum grooves
Reapply tension carefully to the spring system
Tighten all set screws and hardware
Remove the locking pliers
Test the door manually for smooth movement
Reconnect the opener and test the door operation
Stop immediately if the spring system is damaged or under high tension
Call a professional if you are unsure or the cable keeps coming loose
