Clean the hole and remove loose debris
Cut away any damaged drywall around the hole
Cut a drywall patch slightly larger than the hole
Place backing support behind the hole if needed
Secure the backing support with screws
Attach the drywall patch to the backing support
Apply drywall tape over the seams if needed
Spread joint compound over the patch and seams
Let the compound dry completely
Sand the area smooth
Apply a second coat of compound if needed
Sand again after drying
Prime the repaired area
Paint to match the wall
