How To Fix Ingrown Hairs?

Stop shaving, waxing, or plucking the area until it heals

Wash the area gently with mild soap and warm water

Apply a warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes several times a day

Gently exfoliate the skin with a soft washcloth or mild scrub

Use a clean, sterile needle or tweezers only if the hair is visible above the skin surface

Do not dig into the skin or squeeze the bump

Apply an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream if the skin is inflamed

Use an antiseptic or acne treatment with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide if needed

Keep the area moisturized with a non-comedogenic lotion

Wear loose clothing to reduce friction

Shave in the direction of hair growth once the area heals

Use a sharp, clean razor and avoid close shaving

Seek medical care if there is severe pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, or recurring ingrown hairs
