Clean the chipped area with car soap and water
Dry the surface completely
Remove wax, grease, and dirt with rubbing alcohol or wax and grease remover
Sand the chipped spot lightly with fine-grit sandpaper
Feather the edges around the chip so the repair blends smoothly
Apply rust remover if any rust is present
Apply rust converter or primer to bare metal
Let the primer dry fully
Apply matching touch-up paint in thin layers
Let each coat dry before adding the next
Build the paint up until it is level with the surrounding surface
Apply clear coat if the original paint has one
Let the repair cure fully
Wet sand lightly if needed to smooth the finish
Polish the area to blend it with the surrounding paint
Wax the repaired area after it has fully cured
Use a paint protection film or ceramic coating to help prevent future chipping
