Choose ripe plantains for sweet fried plantains or green plantains for savory fried plantains
Peel the plantains
Slice them diagonally or into rounds
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat
Add the plantain slices in a single layer
Fry until golden brown on the bottom
Flip and fry the other side until golden brown
Remove the plantains and drain on paper towels
Sprinkle with salt if desired
Serve warm
