How To Fry Green Tomatoes?

Slice firm green tomatoes into 1/4-inch rounds

Pat the slices dry with paper towels

Season the tomato slices with salt and pepper

Set out three shallow bowls

Put flour in the first bowl

Beat eggs or buttermilk in the second bowl

Put cornmeal, breadcrumbs, or a mix in the third bowl

Dredge each tomato slice in flour

Dip the floured slice in egg or buttermilk

Coat the slice in cornmeal or breadcrumb mixture

Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat

Add enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan

Test the oil by dropping in a small crumb

Fry the tomato slices in a single layer

Cook until golden brown on one side

Flip and cook the other side until golden brown

Remove the slices and drain on paper towels

Sprinkle with more salt if desired

Serve warm
