Check the meter type
Read the numbers from left to right
Ignore any red, decimal, or boxed digits if instructed by your utility
Record the reading exactly as shown
Take a photo of the meter for reference
Submit the reading to your gas provider if required
Compare with the previous reading to estimate usage
