Close doors to isolate the squirrel in one room if possible
Open an exterior door or window in that room to give it an exit route
Leave the room and keep people and pets away
Turn off indoor lights and make the exit area brighter if safe to do so
Stay quiet and avoid sudden movements
Use a broom or large piece of cardboard to gently guide the squirrel toward the exit
Do not corner, grab, or chase the squirrel
Wear gloves and long sleeves if you must be near it
Remove food sources and secure trash after it leaves
Check for and seal entry points only after the squirrel is out
Set up a one-way exclusion device if the squirrel keeps returning
Call a licensed wildlife removal professional if the squirrel is injured, aggressive, or cannot be guided out
Contact animal control or a wildlife rehabilitator if the squirrel appears sick or has babies nearby
