Blot up as much urine as possible with paper towels or a clean cloth
Press firmly and repeat with fresh towels until the area is mostly dry
Rinse the spot with cool water
Blot again to remove the water
Apply an enzymatic pet urine cleaner according to the label
Let the cleaner sit for the recommended time
Blot the area dry
Repeat the enzymatic cleaner if needed
Sprinkle baking soda over the area after it is mostly dry
Let the baking soda sit for several hours or overnight
Vacuum up the baking soda
If odor remains, repeat the cleaning process
Avoid using steam cleaners or hot water on fresh urine stains
Avoid ammonia-based cleaners
Test any cleaner on a hidden area of carpet first
