Blot excess grease with a clean paper towel or cloth; avoid rubbing
Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch, or talcum powder on the stain; let sit 30–60 minutes; brush off
Apply dish soap directly to the stain; work it in gently with fingers or a soft brush
Let sit 10–15 minutes
Launder in the warmest water safe for the fabric, using regular detergent
For set-in stains, repeat dish soap + soak step 1–2 times before washing
Before washing, check that the stain is gone; if any remains, do not dry in a dryer
For stubborn grease, pre-treat with a commercial stain remover labeled for grease/oil; follow label directions
If grease is still visible after washing, reapply dish soap and launder again
For delicate fabrics, use a small amount of dish soap or a fabric-safe degreaser; test in an inconspicuous area first
If garment is dry-clean only, take it to a cleaner and point out the grease stain; do not use heat at home
