Scrape off excess wet paint with a dull knife or spoon
Blot wet paint with a clean white cloth or paper towel
Turn the garment inside out
Rinse the back of the stain with cold water
Check the paint type (water-based vs oil-based) and fabric care label
For water-based acrylic: apply dish soap directly to the stain, work in gently, rinse, repeat until clean
For water-based acrylic: soak in warm water with laundry detergent for 15–30 minutes, then wash normally
For dried acrylic: soak in warm water to soften, then scrape again
For dried acrylic: apply rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) to the stain, blot, rinse, repeat
For dried acrylic: use acetone-free nail polish remover only if the fabric label allows it, dab carefully, blot, rinse, repeat
For dried acrylic: apply a small amount of laundry stain remover, let sit per label, then wash normally
Wash the garment in the hottest water allowed by the care label
Air-dry before checking for remaining stain
If stain remains, repeat the appropriate solvent/soap steps before drying
Avoid putting the garment in the dryer until the stain is fully removed
For delicate fabrics (wool, silk, rayon): use mild dish soap and cold water first, then consult a professional cleaner if needed
