Wash the clothes as soon as possible
Use hot water if the fabric care label allows it
Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the wash
Use a heavy-duty laundry detergent
Add baking soda to the wash for extra odor removal
Soak the clothes in vinegar and water before washing
Rewash clothes that still smell musty
Dry clothes completely in direct sunlight if possible
Use the hottest safe dryer setting for the fabric
Do not leave wet clothes sitting in the washer
Clean the washing machine regularly
Store clothes only when fully dry
Use oxygen bleach for washable fabrics if needed
Repeat the wash if the smell remains
Discard items with severe mold damage if the odor will not come out
