Make an appointment with a dermatologist or qualified healthcare provider
Tell them your acne history, what treatments you have tried, and what has or has not worked
Ask whether isotretinoin (Accutane) is appropriate for your acne
Be honest about all medications, supplements, and skin products you use
Discuss your medical history, including depression, liver disease, high cholesterol, inflammatory bowel disease, and pregnancy risk
If you can become pregnant, discuss contraception requirements and pregnancy testing
Complete any required blood tests and other lab work
Follow any required enrollment steps in the iPLEDGE program if prescribed in the United States
Use the contraception methods required by your prescriber if applicable
Attend follow-up visits and repeat lab tests as scheduled
Fill the prescription only through an authorized pharmacy if required
Take the medication exactly as prescribed
Do not start or continue Accutane without medical supervision
