Offer plenty of fluids
Use a cool-mist humidifier
Run a steamy bathroom shower and sit with the toddler nearby
Use saline nose drops or spray
Gently suction the nose with a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator
Keep the toddler upright as much as possible
Encourage rest
Give honey if the child is older than 1 year
Use a doctor-approved chest rub if age-appropriate
Avoid smoke, strong odors, and dust
Pat or gently rub the back while the child is upright
Seek medical care if breathing is hard, lips look blue, fever is high, or symptoms worsen
