Move away from the area to avoid more stings
Remove the stinger as quickly as possible by scraping it out with a fingernail, credit card, or blunt edge
Wash the sting site with soap and water
Apply a cold pack or ice wrapped in cloth for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Elevate the area if it is on an arm or leg
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion for itching
Take an oral antihistamine if swelling or itching is bothersome
Avoid scratching the sting site
Seek emergency help if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or widespread hives
Get medical help if the sting is in the mouth, nose, or eye, or if symptoms worsen or do not improve
