Do not squeeze, pop, or lance the boil
Apply a warm, moist compress for 10–15 minutes at a time, several times overnight
Keep the area clean and dry between compresses
Wash your hands before and after touching the area
Cover the boil with a clean, sterile bandage or gauze
Use an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed and safe for you
Avoid shaving or rubbing the area
Wear loose clothing to reduce irritation
If it opens on its own, let it drain and clean it gently
Seek urgent medical care if you have fever, spreading redness, severe pain, facial swelling, or a boil near the spine, eye, or genitals
