Keep the blister clean and dry
Wash the area gently with soap and water
Do not pop the blister if possible
Cover it with a blister bandage or moleskin
Use a padded adhesive bandage to reduce friction
Wear shoes that fit properly
Switch to moisture-wicking socks
Change socks if they get wet
Avoid activities that rub the blister
If the blister is large and painful, drain it with a sterilized needle
Leave the blister skin in place after draining
Apply antibiotic ointment if the skin breaks
Rebandage daily or when the dressing gets wet or dirty
Watch for signs of infection
Seek medical care if redness, warmth, pus, or fever develops
See a doctor if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or repeated blisters
