Hand-pick cutworms from soil and plant stems at dusk or after watering
Place cardboard or foil collars around seedlings, 1 to 2 inches into the soil
Remove weeds, plant debris, and grass near garden beds
Till the soil before planting to expose larvae and pupae
Use Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki on young larvae
Apply beneficial nematodes to moist soil
Sprinkle diatomaceous earth around affected plants
Use insecticidal soap or approved garden insecticides if needed
Keep garden edges and nearby areas mowed
Rotate crops each season
Replant damaged seedlings if stems are severed
Inspect plants regularly for fresh damage and larvae
