Use a fruit-fly sticky trap near likely entry points and breeding areas
Cover compost and keep it dry; turn compost regularly
Clean recycling and beverage containers promptly
Wipe down countertops, sinks, and pet food areas where spills may occur
Seal entry points around windows/doors and repair screens
If needed, use an insecticide labeled for fruit flies and follow label directions exactly
Repeat trapping and cleaning for several days until activity stops
