Rest in a dark, quiet room
Close your eyes and avoid screens
Drink a glass of water
Apply a cold compress to the forehead and eyes for 10 to 15 minutes
Use a warm compress if the pain feels like sinus pressure
Take a short nap if possible
Gently massage the temples, forehead, and bridge of the nose
Try slow, deep breathing
Use an over-the-counter pain reliever if you normally can take one
Reduce bright lights and loud noise
Avoid alcohol and dehydration
Remove contact lenses if they are irritating your eyes
If you wear glasses, make sure your prescription is up to date
Seek urgent medical care if the headache is sudden, severe, or comes with vision changes, fever, weakness, confusion, or eye redness with pain
