Store pet food in airtight containers
Remove trash daily and keep bins sealed
Keep sinks, counters, and floors clean; wipe up spills immediately
Fix leaks and reduce standing water
Clean drains regularly with a drain brush and hot water
Use a vinegar rinse in drains weekly
Eliminate damp areas (repair moisture, run ventilation, use dehumidifier if needed)
Remove clutter and cardboard where nats can hide
Vacuum floors, rugs, and baseboards regularly
Wash reusable bins and containers with soap and hot water
Take out compost and keep it in sealed bins
Use screens on windows and doors; repair gaps and weather stripping
Install door sweeps and seal cracks around pipes and vents
Use nat traps (sticky traps) near likely entry points and breeding areas
Use an insect light trap if applicable for your room setup
For fruit flies/nats in particular: place a small bowl with apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap
For drain-breeding nats: use a commercial drain treatment labeled for drain flies or pour boiling water followed by a targeted treatment
