Clean the piercing with sterile saline (0.9% sodium chloride) 1–2 times daily
Rinse thoroughly after saline use
Gently wash in the shower with mild, fragrance-free soap only if needed, then rinse well
Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, or harsh antiseptics
Do not remove the jewelry unless a clinician tells you to
Do not twist, rotate, or “check” the jewelry
Use only clean hands when touching the area
Reduce irritation from pressure, snagging, or friction (loose clothing, avoid helmets/strap rubbing)
Avoid sleeping directly on the piercing
Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, and dirty water until fully healed
If the jewelry is too tight or made of low-quality metal, have it resized/changed by a professional piercer to implant-grade titanium, solid gold, or surgical steel
If redness, swelling, heat, or pain is increasing, seek medical care promptly
If there is pus with worsening symptoms, fever, or spreading redness, seek urgent care
If the bump persists beyond 4–8 weeks despite proper care, see a professional piercer or clinician for evaluation
Do not apply tea tree oil, ointments, creams, or home remedies
If you suspect an allergy, get tested and switch to implant-grade materials with help from a piercer or clinician
For infected piercings, follow a clinician’s treatment plan (may require prescription antibiotics)
Use warm saline compresses 5–10 minutes, 1–2 times daily if swelling is present
