Do not squeeze, pop, or pick it
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day
Use a cold compress on the outside of the lip for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Keep the area clean with gentle oral hygiene
Avoid spicy, acidic, or irritating foods
Avoid lip products that may cause irritation
Drink plenty of water
Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
See a dentist or doctor if it is very painful, lasts more than 1 to 2 weeks, grows, or keeps coming back
Seek urgent care if you have swelling, fever, trouble swallowing, or trouble breathing
