Take over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen as directed on the label
Use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek for 15 to 20 minutes at a time
Rinse gently with warm salt water several times a day
Keep the area clean by brushing and flossing carefully around the tooth
Avoid hard, crunchy, sticky, or very hot and cold foods
Chew on the opposite side of the mouth
Use an oral numbing gel if appropriate and directed for use
Sleep with your head elevated
Avoid smoking and alcohol
See a dentist as soon as possible for evaluation and treatment
